Hotspot media
Show a photo or video from a hotspot
Make a hotspot open a close-up photo, a short video, or a YouTube clip in a pop-up, with alt text and transcripts so everyone gets it.

A hotspot can do more than show text. In the scene editor I add a hotspot on the old fireplace, and for the type I choose Image or video. From my library I pick the close-up photo I took of the tiles, and I write the alt text: hand-painted blue and white tiles, about 1910, two of them cracked. That's required, so people using a screen reader get the same picture. I save, and on the tour, opening that hotspot shows the photo in a pop-up, even in fullscreen. For a video it's the same, but the video needs a transcript in the library first. If the transcript is a VTT file, it also turns into captions. And if the clip lives on YouTube, I paste the link instead.
Steps
- Upload the photo or video to your media library first (Tours, then Media library). For a video, attach its transcript there too: a hotspot can't use a video without one.
- Open the scene, click Edit scene, and add a hotspot (or click Edit on an existing one).
- Under type, choose Image or video. Pick the file from Image or video from your library: files in this tour come first, and a video without a transcript says so.
- For an image, write the Alt text: what someone who can't see it needs to know, in a sentence. Saving without it is refused.
- Or paste a YouTube link instead of choosing a file.
- Click Save hotspot. Visitors who open it see the image or play the video in a pop-up that also works in fullscreen. Escape closes it, and a video stops when it closes. If the transcript is a .vtt file, it also shows as captions.
- A file a hotspot uses can't be deleted from the library until you change the hotspot; the library says which hotspot holds it.
